NORTHLAND RUGBY UNION AGM UPDATE

Kia ora,

Last night, a very successful and positive Northland Rugby Union Annual General Meeting was held via an on-line Zoom format for the first time. Whilst it doesn’t replace the benefit of face to face interaction, it does provide an ideal solution for our times of Isolation and was successful to the point we had a strong community wide attendance.

I would like to thank Paul Scott for running the meeting as Chair of the Council of Unions and agreeing to forgo personal plans and recommitting to his role in support of Northland Rugby for another year. Paul’s attitude reinforces the community support evident to ensure we rise successfully from these turbulent times.

I would also like to acknowledge the significant appointments and recognition announced at the meeting:

  • Andrew Golightly was appointed President. It is great to have Andrew back in the fold bringing with him his natural Northland Rugby passion but also a wealth of experience from his tenure on the NZ Rugby Board.

  • Sharon Morgan stepped down as President to become our Immediate Past President after a tenure that was recognised and applauded not only as New Zealand’s first female Provincial Union President, but also her natural passion for the growth and development of our game within Northland.

  • Brent Hewitt was appointed Patron with Phil Halse stepping down. This is deserved recognition for Brent who has given so much to Northland Rugby at so many levels and facets of our organisation, and it is great to have his support in this role.

  • Don Nicholson was honoured with Life Membership. Don has been involved with Northland rugby administration for over 40 years, including, Whangarei delegate to the Northland rugby union management committee, Chairman Northland rugby union management committee 4-5 years and he has been heavily involved with the New Zealand Vikings Rugby Club.

We look forward to meeting in person, when the protocols allow, to recognise our appointments and to simply catch up in person, because at the end of the day our great game is as much about the socialisation as it is he competition.

Kia rewa, kia runga te Taniwha!

Nga mihi

Cameron Bell

Chief Executive Officer
